Foreign Missionary Problems and Perks

Biserica Lui Isus Hristos A Sfintilor Din Zilele Din Urma Romania/Moldova Misiunea Bulevardul Primaverii Nr 19-21, Etaj 1, #13 Sector 1, Bucharest 011972 Romania Experience 1: I get on the maxi taxi this week and I sit down and this man is like full on staring at my name tag.  It was like I had 6 heads or something.  He was like, so puzzled.  So I'm like, "Buna!" and throw a classic Sora Lee smile his way.  And he stands up, glares at me and says, "I know why you're here. The orthodox church is the only true church.  Leave".   So ya know as every Eastern Europe missionary did, I just kept smiling.  Experience 2: We had the sisters from beautiful Constanta come up to us for exchanges and I got to serve with Sora Wyatt, a missionary who is being trained by my home girl Sora Sayre (fab 9).  We planned for 8 lessons and...they all fell through hahaha.  I don't even understand why. The Romanians refuse to do anything if it rains.  All of our lessons were scheduled at their houses, so it wasn't like they had to head  outside.... I don't even know haha Experience 3: Some sisters 4 months ago never paid a bill and our gas got shut off....and it's still off...even though we paid the bill.....Romania problems.  I sleep in my snow jacket, can see my breath in the morning and heat water up in our microwave to take sponge baths.  Fun.  Humbling. Frustrating. #iwouldbeabadpioneer Experience 4: While on the train today heading to Bacau for exchanges with the sisters there, there was this young mother walking up and down the isle with a baby in her arm.  I had this really strong impression to talk to her.  But like, I freak out, because gah, what if something goes wrong!  So the last 10 minutes of the train I get the courage to go talk to her.  So i go and sit across from her and I told her I wanted to share a message with her about eternal families and I gave her "The Family, A Proclammation to the World" pliant.  She was like, "Thanks" and turned away but the man behind her was like, "You aren't Romanian are you?" And I told him I'm a volunteer mission from America and I'm here to talk to people about Christ and help them strengthen their relationship with God".  and he happily announced to everyone on the train cart in a loud voice, "She is here from America to talk to people about Jesus!  How wonderful is that?!"  It was pretty cool.  I taught him a little about the restoration and the woman turned around and handed him the pliant I had given her.  Haha.  He lived too far away from us to teach him, so I directed him to the website on back.  I also said if he had any questions, he could call us.   I wish more cities were open in this mission and I know hat one day they will be.   Ah.  The Lord really prepares people!!!!  Experience 5:  Got yelled at some more in Bacau on exchanges haha.  While contacting for English this man comes up to us and he is like, "What are you looking for here?!" And at the time, we were looking for a bank so I said "We are trying to find a bank".  Wrong answer.  "Go home!  You aren't welcome here!" He yelled, everyone around us started at us.  "Go home to your grandmas!  Leave!".  Well that was fun.   Kept smiling and walked away. Experience 6:  A blind ward member thought I was another sister missionary while in Bacau for exchanges (Sora Merkley hadn't told her I was on an exchange).  So we head to this members house and she puts her arms around me and pulls me in for a pup (cheek kiss) and she like, "You have smaller breasts, you're not Sora Long!" And I just start busting up and I told her, no I am Sora Lee, from Bacau and I'm here for an exchange.  She thought it was the darnest thing! She really seemed to like me and even dedicated the whole closing prayer to me haha.  I love her!!!! Experience 7:  I have 2 callings (assignments) in the branch.  1st counselor in the Relief Society and a primary teacher haha.  I love it.  Although when I was sustained in church, there was a mistake and my calling got misread as another sister's.  No one caught the mistake until after I was sustained.  Well this one sister got her feelings so hurt because she thought that I had stolen her calling away form her that she fled from the building.   Mistakes happen.  Don't leave the church over silly mistakes.   So yeah, I gotta repair that this week haha.  I LOVE MY MISSION!  All of the craziness just makes it that much better.    Loving the work, Loving the people and Loving the Lord, :) Sora Lee Photo 1: All I wanted was tortilla chips...the waitress read my mind and brought me some! #miraclesarereal Photo 2: My exchange with our cute new missionary Sora Wyatt!  The Constanta sister ROCK!
